A respected teacher of Israel, Nicodemus came to Jesus under cover of darkness, drawn by his signs. Jesus told him he must be “born again” to see the kingdom of God — and spoke the words of John 3:16.

Later, Nicodemus quietly defended Jesus before his fellow leaders, urging a fair hearing.

After the crucifixion he came openly, bringing a large amount of spices to help bury Jesus — his secret faith now in the light.
