Hebrew word · Strong's H6918

קָדוֹשׁ

qâdôwsh · kaw-doshe' · adjective · “holy”

In a sentence

Qadosh means holy — set apart for God, sacred, pure. It is sung three times around God’s throne and shapes the calling of his people.

Qadosh is the adjective behind qodesh (holiness). God is qadosh — utterly set apart from sin and supreme in glory. The seraphim sing it three times in Isaiah 6: holy, holy, holy.

His people are likewise to be qadosh: “you shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy.” Christian holiness is reflective: we are set apart because the Holy One has claimed us.
