Abraham
The patriarch God called to leave his homeland, promising to make him into a great nation through whom all peoples would be blessed.
Originally Abram, he obeyed God’s call to Canaan and believed God’s promise of countless descendants, which ‘was credited to him as righteousness’ (Genesis 15:6). His faith is a model throughout Scripture.
God made a covenant with Abraham and tested him with the offering of Isaac. The New Testament calls believers his spiritual children, heirs of the promise through faith.
